Inmate Text App
If you have a family member who is incarcerated, the best way to stay in touch is to use an inmate messaging application. These apps are designed to meet prison regulations and permit family members and friends to send and receive messages, photos, eCards, video calls, and even money into their trust accounts in prison. There are also federal inmate apps that provide additional services, such as video visits and phone calls.
JPay is one example. It allows family and friends to send money directly into an inmate’s trust account, as well as videos, photos, emails and electronic cards. It also lets them make personalized postcards featuring personal photos. It's a more secure, more secure alternative to regular mail.
Another popular app for texting prisoners is GettingOut. It allows "simple and efficient communication" between inmates and their loved family members. The app, available in select correctional facilities, allows inmates to upload photos and text their friends and families via their tablets. Inmates pay $0.25 per message and their loved ones pay the cost of data to access them (but not explicit pictures). The GettingOut app allows you to upload a photo to Facebook or Foursquare and check-in to Foursquare and add a YouTube video.
